The Democratic Party of Hong Kong's Reaction to Beijing's Successful Bid to Host the 2008 Olympics

The Democratic Party of Hong Kong welcomes the wonderful news of Beijing's successful bid to host the 2008 Olympics, and believes that this will bring joy to the Chinese people in Hong Kong and all over the world.

The spirit of the Olympic games is to bring together peoples of all nations and of different cultures and promote friendship through fair competition. Beijing's success will not only enhance our people's understanding of the outside world, but also encourage the further opening up of the Chinese society, and bring our people closer to the international community.

China has done much in developing the potentials of her talented sportsmen and sportswomen. We are confident that Beijing will be able in 2008 to give to the world the most successful of all Olympic games ever held.
