40% Respondents Support Transforming RTHK
to become the Hong Kong Public Broadcasting Corporation

A telephone survey of 1150 respondents was conducted by the Democratic Party during late April - mid May. The findings show 61.2 % respondents believed public service broadcasting was needed in Hong Kong, 42.2% had a good impression over performance of RTHK, 48.9% supports the suggestion of Committee on Review of Public Service Broadcasting to set up an independent public broadcasting body, 40% respondents support transforming RTHK to become the Hong Kong Public Broadcasting Corporation.

The Democratic Party believes that RTHK should be transformed to the Hong Kong Public Broadcasting Corporation. Lawmaker Lee Wing-tat will move a motion regarding the issue on coming Wednesday, by urging the authority to expeditiously review the future role, positioning and development direction of RTHK, actively study the feasibility of transforming RTHK to become the Hong Kong Public Broadcasting Corporation, and conduct public consultation on the results of the review and the study.
