Clearer standard to regulate the disclosure of saleable area in sales descriptions for residential properties

1st March 2008

DPHK is advocating for a clearer and more consistent standard to regulate the disclosure of information by real estate developers and agents in sales descriptions for residential properties to provide better protection for consumers.

DPHK recommends that:

1) Price lists of the properties should be standardized to include Gross Floor Area, Saleable Area exclude Ancillary Area, all parts of the Ancillary Area and Shared Common Area;

2) Estate agents should be obliged to provide their clients with accurate information regarding the calculation of the Saleable Area exclude Ancillary Area;

3) Online sales descriptions distributed by real estate developers and agents should also be regulated by the same standard.

DPHK hopes the administration and relevant groups will adopt the above recommendations to raise transparency in the sale of residential properties when the Panel on Housing of the Legislative Council discusses the matter next Monday.

Hon. LEE Wing-Tat
Member of the Legislative Council
Spokesperson for Housing Policy, DPHK
